Around 3:15 a.m., RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway 11 between Girvin and Davidson, RCMP said in a release. A semi truck collided with a second stopped semi truck, then a third collided with both of them before all three caught fire, the release said.

The drivers of all three trucks reported minor injures.

Around the same time, about five kilometres south, a semi collided with another semi that was stopped on the road, RCMP said. One driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP said a Davidson Volunteer Fire Department fire truck rolled over with two firefighters inside while responding to a collision at an unspecified time. One was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Craik RCMP said they received reports of several other collisions in that period.

Emergency workers were still at the scene of the initial Highway 11 collision Thursday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays; vehicles were being guided through by RCMP.

“Road conditions were extremely icy early this morning but have now improved significantly,” Craik RCMP Sgt. Robb Karaim said in the release.

The road was re-opened by 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
