Multiple semi trucks tipped over due to high winds across South Dakota on Thursday – Argus Leader


High winds caused more than 10 semi trucks to tip over Thursday on South Dakota highways, according to Highway Patrol.

A high wind warning is in effect for the entire state until Friday. Wind gusts could reach up to 70 miles per hour in western and central South Dakota throughout Thursday and Friday.

Eastern South Dakota could see gusts as high as 60 miles per hour.

Sioux Falls and the surrounding area is under a winter weather advisory and wind advisory, the National Weather Service reports.

The wind advisory lasts until 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to NWS. Reduced visibility is expected on roadways.

NWS Sioux Falls weather forecast:

Tonight: A chance of rain before 8 p.m., then rain and snow likely between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., then snow likely after 11 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Blustery, with a west northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Friday: A chance of snow, mainly before 11 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Windy, with a northwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 41.

Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.
